RETIREMENT CHECKLISTS
As you go through the retirement process, use these checklists to get tasks completed at each stage. You must complete all actions in the checklists for Part I, Receipt of NOE & Part II.
Part I:
PRIOR TO NOTICE OF ELIGIBILITY (NOE) FOR RETIREMENT / 20 YEAR LETTER

15 - 17 yrs of creditable service
At this point, you may not be committed to retiring, or even have a retirement date in mind, but you should begin planning now. Take the advice of those who walked this path before you. It takes more time than you know.

17 - 18 yrs of creditable service
This is the time to schedule some retirement planning classes, do some financial planning, and research life insurance options.

18 - 19 yrs of creditable service
Your dates are becoming more definite during this time. It is a time to plan ahead but also take care of items like medical and dental appointments, Survivor Benefit Plan research, and preparing for employment or education pursuits.

19 - 19.5 yrs of creditable service
Retirement is less than a year away. This time will be spent submitting official paperwork, scheduling important appointments, and taking action on your plans.

19.5 - 20 yrs of creditable service
The focus is now almost all on your military retirement. It is time to execute your plans.
NOTE:
If you decide to continue to serve after your NOE, submit your PAR to transfer to the retired reserve or for discharge using IPPS-A at least nine months prior to your intended date of transfer or discharge.
Follow the continued timeline in Part II after you enter the retired reserve or are discharged.
PART II:
AFTER TRANSFER TO THE RETIRED RESERVE OR FOLLOWING DISCHARGE

0 - 6 mths after retired/discharged
Complete these actions following entry into the retired reserve or after discharge.

9 - 12 mths prior to age 60 or RPED
Prior to reaching age 60 or your retired pay eligibility date, check off these items.

After transfer to retired list
Take care of these tasks once you receive orders to be placed on the retired rolls.
