Just like service members and veterans, military spouses have many options for furthering their education in order to ready themselves for a new career or to advance their employment opportunities, including getting a degree, pursuing a credential or professional license, or taking part in on-the-job training.
- Getting A Degree or Credential/License
- One of the best places to start for military spouses who are interested in getting a degree, credential, or license is Military OneSource’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) Pursue Your Education webpage. Here, MilSpouses can find information on different education paths, education planning, academic readiness, schools, credentials and licenses, and more.
- Also check out programs like Onward to Opportunity, NPower, or the programs listed on our Career Training page for other online training opportunities open to MilSpouses.
- Need financial help? The My Career Advancement Account (MyCAA) Scholarship Program provides military spouses up to $4,000 for licenses, certifications, or Associate’s degrees. Unused Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefits can also be transferred to MilSpouses and dependents in some cases. Lastly, there are many scholarships and benefits available for MilSpouses.
- On-The-Job Training
- Several organizations offer fellowship programs specifically for MilSpouses to give them on-the-job training, including the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Fellowship Program and the FINRA Foundation Military Spouse Fellowship Program
