Get Your Flu Shot!

The days are getting shorter and colder, the leaves are changing color and falling from the trees, and holiday season is almost upon us. As winter approaches, so does “Flu Season.”

Influenza, or the flu, is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and even death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), “Flu Season” can begin as early as October and last as late as May. During recent flu seasons, between 80 and 90 percent of flu-related deaths have occurred in people 65 years and older.

A flu shot causes your body to develop antibodies which protect against infection. The flu shot protects you, and when you are less likely to become ill you are less likely to spread the disease among your Family, community and place of work. You are the key to stopping an epidemic!

Are flu shots covered by TRICARE? Yes. The flu shot is available at Military Treatment Facilities, pharmacies and TRICARE-authorized providers. Click here to find a location near you. You will also have opportunities to get your flu shot at some Retiree Appreciation Days.
